Module Code : BBA380, CM380

Course Objective
The goals of this course are that you be able to do the following:

  1. Explain each of the basic human resource functions to someone with no knowledge of them
  2. Explain the interrelationships among the functions, and the interaction with operating management and other areas to achieve an organization's goals
  3. Apply fundamental human resource management concepts in real or hypothetical organizations
  4. Evaluate current ideas and proposals regarding human resource management

Examine the ways in which major human resource management activities have had an impact on you as an employee or manager or on someone else you know

Course Description
Topics covered include discusses legislation and other environmental factors influencing human resource management.  Job analysis, human resource planning, recruitment, and selection. Otherwise known as staffing, these activities try to ensure that an organization has the type and number of employees it needs at the appropriate time. Development ranges from new employee orientation to basic literacy training to education for high-level executives. It also may include career development, programs to foster teamwork, and comprehensive organizational development, which helps the entire company adapt to change.

Performance appraisal as part of development. Classifying appraisal as part of development is admittedly arbitrary, because the results of performance appraisals may be used as much to make pay raise and promotion decisions as to aid employees' professional growth.

Compensation, which includes base pay, incentive compensation, and employee benefits.

Course Requirement
There will be 9 multiple-choice exams. The objective is not to test your memorization skills but your ability to readily assimilate Human Resource Management and then apply the data and concepts to everyday problems and situations.

Grading Procedure
Multiple-choice exams are valued at 70% of final grade; assignment is 30% of final grade.
